Golf Launch Monitors Ireland

Compare golf launch monitors for Irish golfers, from the Garmin R10 to the Rapsodo MLM2PRO, with euro prices, subscription costs and independent review findings.

A golf launch monitor measures every shot you hit: ball speed, launch angle, spin and carry distance. For Irish golfers it turns a wet winter evening into a useful practice session at home or under cover at the range. Prices start at around €540 for a phone-based unit and the models below top out at about €750. The bigger difference between them is often the yearly subscription, not the box price.

This guide compares the launch monitors worth considering in Ireland, what independent testers found and what each one costs to run after year one.

The quick answer

  • Best value with no subscription: Swing Caddie SC4 Pro. It shows your numbers on its own screen, so you don’t need a phone at the range.
  • Best for spin and video under €1,000: Rapsodo MLM2PRO, provided you’re happy to pay for the Premium membership after the trial.

The Garmin Approach R10 is the cheapest of the three to buy and the best known name. It’s easy to use and widely sold, though simulator rounds need a Garmin Golf membership.

What a launch monitor does, and what it doesn’t

Every unit on this page reads ball data. Most also estimate club data such as club speed and face angle. Cheaper radar units calculate some numbers rather than measuring them, so spin figures can drift on short shots or indoors with little ball flight.

A launch monitor on its own is a practice tool. To play virtual courses you also need a net or impact screen, a hitting mat and a display. Our guide to building a home golf simulator in Ireland covers those parts and what a full setup costs.

Check the subscription before you compare prices

Two monitors with similar price tags can cost very different amounts over three years. Before you buy, check four things:

  • Which features stop working when the trial ends.
  • Whether simulator courses need a separate software licence on top.
  • Whether a lifetime membership is offered, and at what price.
  • Which golf balls the unit needs for accurate spin indoors.

The launch monitors compared

Swing Caddie SC4 Pro: the simplest to use

The SC4 Pro has a bright screen on the unit, so you can switch it on at the range and read your numbers without a phone. Plugged In Golf ran it head to head with a Foresight GCQuad and called it an upgraded version of its favourite personal launch monitor (Plugged In Golf review). It works with E6 Connect, and the purchase includes one course and the driving range for life.

Good fit for: golfers who want reliable numbers at the range without paying every year.

Watch out for: the SC4 Pro won’t connect to the older My Swing Caddie app, so download the Voice Caddie S app instead.

Rapsodo MLM2PRO: best for spin and swing video

MyGolfSpy gave the MLM2PRO its Best Personal Launch Monitor Under $1K award for 2025 (MyGolfSpy review). A built-in video system lets you review your swing. Plugged In Golf said the spin accuracy sets it apart at this price and that the app is what sold the reviewer (Plugged In Golf review).

The catch is the membership. Rapsodo’s own breakdown shows basic features stay free, while simulation, measured spin and third-party software need Premium (Rapsodo). Plugged In Golf also notes that spin is only measured with Callaway RPT balls.

Good fit for: golfers who want video and spin data and plan to use simulator modes.

Watch out for: the yearly cost once the trial ends.

Garmin Approach R10: the familiar name

The R10 is small, runs off your phone and fits easily in a golf bag. National Club Golfer gave it 4.5 out of 5 and found its club data very accurate, though it advises treating range yardages and ball data with some suspicion (National Club Golfer review). Garmin’s Home Tee Hero simulator offers more than 42,000 courses, but it needs a Garmin Golf membership after a 30-day free trial.

Our full Garmin Approach R10 review covers setup and day-to-day use.

Good fit for: Garmin watch owners and golfers who want a small unit for the bag.

Watch out for: it needs a phone or tablet for every session, and premium balls give better readings.

Buying a launch monitor as a gift

A launch monitor makes a big gift, but it’s easy to get wrong. Check which phone the golfer uses, how much indoor space they have and whether they’ll pay a subscription. If you’re not sure, a no-subscription model is the safer choice. Our Christmas golf gifts guide has cheaper ideas too.

Frequently Asked Questions

Frequently asked questions

Do golf launch monitors work indoors?

Yes, but radar units need enough space behind the ball and in front of it to read the flight. Always hit into a net or impact screen indoors, and check the space requirements before you buy.

Which launch monitors don't need a subscription?

Of the units on this page, only the Swing Caddie SC4 Pro needs none. Rapsodo and Garmin keep basic features free but charge for simulator and premium features after the trial.

Are cheap launch monitors accurate?

Good ones are close enough for practice. Plugged In Golf tested the SC4 Pro head to head with a Foresight GCQuad, and National Club Golfer found the R10’s club data very accurate but advised caution with its ball data. Spin and club data are where cheaper units usually fall behind.

Can I use a launch monitor on an Irish driving range?

Yes. The units on this page are all made for range use as well as indoor practice, but check the manual for the conditions each one needs.

Do I need special golf balls?

Some units read premium balls more accurately. Plugged In Golf says the Rapsodo MLM2PRO measures spin only with Callaway RPT balls, and National Club Golfer found the Garmin R10 works best with a premium ball.
